The Opportunity: Your Impact as Director of Nursing This isn’t just a job; it’s a chance to plan, direct, and oversee all functions of our Nursing Department, ensuring every aspect of care aligns with the highest state and federal regulations, facility policies, and individualized resident medical plans. As our DON, you will be responsible and accountable for all nursing care provided 24 hours, seven days a week, shaping the future of care at The Highlands Living Center.
What You’ll Do & How You’ll Lead:
• Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement the Nursing Department’s organizational chart, staffing plans, and comprehensive nursing service procedures, guided by our facility’s vision and mission.
• Team Empowerment: Lead the full employee lifecycle, including hiring and orientation to evaluation and training of our dedicated nursing staff. You’ll administer fair personnel policies, ensuring an equitable and supportive work environment.
• Quality & Compliance Champion: Spearhead a formal quality assurance program, including infection control, and lead our facility’s quality assurance committee to continually enhance care standards. Ensure meticulous compliance with state, federal, Medicare, and OSHA regulations.
• Operational Excellence: Manage the annual Nursing Department budget, overseeing personnel, supplies, equipment, and capital expenditures to ensure our team has everything needed for outstanding care.
• Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Foster strong, effective communication and a team-based approach with all department managers, enhancing cooperation across the facility.
• Continuous Growth: Stay at the forefront of nursing advancements through networking, conferences, and workshops, continually integrating best practices into our care model.
• Round-the-Clock Support: Participate in the nursing administration on-call schedule, providing crucial 24-hour support to our nursing team.
• Facility Oversight: Occasionally assume the role of acting administrator, monitoring the overall function of the nursing home when required.
What We’re Looking For:
• Education: B.S. in Nursing required; an advanced degree is preferred.
• Licensure & Certifications: Current NYS License and New York State registration are essential. You should be PRI certified and MDS proficient, with knowledge of infection control (certification preferred) and OSHA regulations.
• Experience: A minimum of 5 years of progressive Long-Term Care (LTC) experience in a management role is required.
• Expertise: Demonstrated knowledge of Quality Improvement concepts, standards, and guidelines from regulatory agencies, alongside a strong understanding of Medicare state and federal regulations.
• Skills: Possess strong organizational and effective communication skills, the ability to remain level-headed in emergency situations, and a spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm to cultivate an environment conducive to growth.
• Tech Savvy: Knowledgeable in the function and capabilities of clinical computer software.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
B.S. in Nursing. Current NYS License required. Advanced degree preferred.
At least 5 years progressive LTC experience in management required with knowledge of PRI’s, MDS, and State Regulations.
Specific Requirements:
Current New York State registration and licensure. PRI certified, MDS proficient, knowledge of infection control, certification of
infection control preferred, knowledge of OSHA regulations.
Knowledgeable in Medicare state and fed regs.
Demonstrated expertise and knowledge of Quality Improvement concepts, standards, and guidelines set forth by the regulatory agencies for long-term care.
Strong organizational and effective communication skills. Level headed in emergency skills.
Must possess spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm in order to create an atmosphere conductive to growth.
Pay Range: $89,440 to $115,000 annually. 5-week paid vacation (based on hours accrued)
**The referenced pay ranges represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
