As members of The Highlands family, our Assisted Living residents enjoy strong connections with those in Independent Living and are seamlessly woven into the full campus experience.
Next-Level Amenities
Laurelwood apartments include studio floor plans as well as one- and two-bedroom layouts with living rooms. Each apartment is equipped with a kitchenette that includes a microwave and a refrigerator/freezer. Three delicious, chef-prepared meals are served restaurant-style in an elegantly appointed dining room every day and snacks are always available between meals. Convenience is key to daily life with on-site amenities such as a full-service salon and barber shop, a lovely gift shop, and even an on-campus physician’s practice that is available for residents to join. For added peace of mind, a 24-hour emergency call system ensures help is always just moments away.

Caring support is always within reach at Laurelwood and tailored to each resident’s needs. Whether it’s assistance with bathing and dressing or expert medication management—including timely dispensing and direct delivery of prescriptions from our preferred pharmacies—we’re here 24 hours a day to help every step of the way. For added comfort and convenience, housekeeping, linen service, and personal laundry service are provided. Chauffeured car service is available for stress-free transportation to appointments, outings, or for errands.

At Laurelwood, life naturally centers around our inviting dining room and cozy Hearth Room—favorite gathering places where conversations flow and friendships grow. The Laurel Way Garden is a beautifully landscaped, gated garden with a peaceful water fountain and plenty of sunny spots to sit and enjoy life during the warmer months.
Laurelwood is also connected to the hub of The Highlands campus, Hahnemann Square, which is just a short stroll down the hall. There you’ll find the Library, Music Room, and the Community Center—home to many things from guest performances and movie nights to special events and our renowned University of Rochester lectures. It’s all steps away, ready to enrich your day.

Assisted Living is a type of senior housing designed for older adults who need some help with activities of daily living (ADLs)–such as dressing, bathing, or managing medications– but do not require the intensive medical care provided by skilled nursing, commonly known as a nursing home. When driving becomes difficult or mobility decreases, it’s easy to become isolated—a challenge that can take a real toll on both physical and emotional wellbeing.

In our assisted living community, residents live in private apartments and have access to exceptional amenities, including meals, housekeeping, and a wide range of up to 200 social and recreational activities per month. Care is personalized based on individual needs, and support is available 24/7 from trained staff, who encourage as much independence as possible.
