At Laurel Way, our memory care neighborhood is thoughtfully designed to support individuals living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. With just eight private apartment homes situated around an open concept home-like kitchen and living room, this boutique setting offers a calm, intimate environment where each resident feels safe, known, and valued.

What sets us apart is our person-centered approach. We focus on helping each individual stay connected to who they’ve always been—celebrating their identity and honoring their story–while nurturing a true sense of belonging and purpose in the now.

In our memory care community, we meet residents where they currently are on their journey. We walk alongside them, moment by moment, creating meaningful experiences that reflect their preferences, passions, and pace of life. Whether it’s lending a hand in the kitchen or enjoying a sunny afternoon on the patio, we offer everyday opportunities for residents to engage, connect, and live life on their terms in a place that truly feels like home.

Are memory care residents included in all activities?

The Highlands is an inclusive community embracing the needs of all residents. Specialized assistance is provided to allow Laurel Way residents to enjoy all life enrichment activities.

What types of activities are specifically designed for Laurel Way residents?

Activities are tailored around the interests of each of our Laurel Way residents. For example, if a resident has always enjoyed baking, we will do a baking activity regularly. All residents are welcome to join in. The small size of our assisted living memory care community affords us the opportunity to touch on the interests of all of our residents on a frequent basis.

How do you address safety?

With an above-average staff-to-resident ratio (1:4) and specialized training, our caregivers are well-equipped to support those with diminished safety awareness and impulse control, common characteristics of Alzheimer’s and dementia.

How else do you support the memories of each individual?

Each resident has a collage of pictures from their entire lifetime hanging outside their door. This helps them to recognize their apartment and sparks wonderful memories and conversations with others about their lives and loved ones.
